Prof. Dr Raj Kumar Thakur is at present the Project coordinator of All India Coordinated Research Project on Honey bees and Pollinators in Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. He is the Professor of Apiculture at Dr Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan, Himachal Pradesh, India. He has been awarded Ph.D. in Entomology with specialization in bee breeding through instrumental insemination from Dr Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry Nauni, Solan Himachal Pradesh, India.He is Post doctoral DAAD fellow from Lander Institute Fur Bienenkunde, Hohen Neuendorf, Germany. Prof. Thakur has been associated with pioneering research on development of infra-red technique for behaviouristic studies of Apis mellifera carnica against Varroa destructor particularly in relation to Varroa tolerant traits and utilization of drone layers in breeding for mite tolerance. He has been a pioneer for standardizing bumble bee rearing technique in India. He headed Dabur Nepal Apiculture centre for two years and served as Technical Head, Sanat Products Private Limited for a year. During his stay in private sector he was instrumental in setting up apiculture centres of International standards at Bara, Nepal and Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, India. He is member of various professional societies.He has more than 300 publications in the form of International and National research papers, Books, Technical bulletins, Practical manuals, Extension publications. Besides ICAR, with his constant efforts he has received sizeable amount of fund for R&D on apiculture and pollinators with multiple stakeholders including international institutions, National Bee Board, M/S Syngenta, Crop Life India, Crop Care Federation of India. He has been instrumental in launching a National BEE CONNECT programme in collaboration with Crop Life Asia and KVK, Baramati.
