India is an agrarian country and spread in 3,287,263 square km area thus agriculture extension becomes a
very challenging task. Most of our agriculture experts feel due to poor extension support our crop
productivity is low in comparison to other countries. During the green revolution time it was decided that
EDEN HORTICULTURE we need to spread our extension network across the country as per their agro climatic zones and Krishi
Vigyan Kendra (KVK) network was established. Today we have more than 700 KVK across India. During
Servises design educational project the green revolution era they have played pivotal roles and they have increased our crop productivity
specially for rice and wheat. With time the population has increased and extension service has become more
challenging. It was very difcult to outreach every farm thus, the government is trying to make a

the private sector has identied potential regions for their seeds/pesticides/fertilizers and do lots of efforts
to outreach farmer’s elds and as per their revenue they are strengthening it. Though quality and fake

availability and performance is a limiting factor. Here our government should think how we can improve
our reach and generate revenue from our R&D institutes. Recently, another trend has emerged in our
Krishi Mela and we are showing hydroponic and aeroponic kind of technologies and endorsing them as
more lucrative. As a matter of fact, such technologies require very high Capex and skills to operate which is
not possible at farmer level. Thus, again we are misleading them and not guiding them as per their
resources and skill. Similarly, organic farming promotion and market is another puzzle among farming
communities but there is no authentic source for certied organic seeds in India. Since as per seed act 1966
company can’t not sell seeds without fungicide treatment which is against organic farming practice. Zero
budget farming and natural farming kind of extension service is also oating in the market. So, the
conclusion is that rather than giving solutions our govt funded institutes are creating confusion among
the farming community. Farmer expectation is now market led extension rather than traditional farming
which used to be yield oriented only. I think in such circumstances the government and private sector
should work together under the PPP model which can be a good solution in the country's interest.
